Springfield didn't quite happen |

In an article in today's newspaper, the
predicted renaissance of the historic area Springfield just didn't
take off. There were builders who built beautiful homes (and they
really are cool, with the detached garages of typical homes of
decades back) just a few doors from run-down and/or vacant
properties. Two and three years ago lots of younger couples and
singles were looking at fix-up homes there - and alot of them
needed to be razed really but the historic factor was so appealing.
Now prices make fixing them up not an option - the paper mentioned
a rundown store on the market for over a million dollars! Who can
buy that and fix it up?
So the boom bypassed Springfield - the few restaurants who have
tried to make it a "cool" spot, thinking it would become San Marco
or Five Points, have gone out, gone under or just gone. Too
